Fulgoraria prevostiana (Crosse, 1878)
Description
Pale brown with brown zigzag patterns or broad spiral bands.
Some specimens have
no pattern.
Usually protoconch big, but occasionally small like Fulgoraria
magna.
Locality
Japan: Off Chosi, Off Sotobo in 120m, Mouth of Tokyo Bay in 250m-300m sand
and muddy bottoms, Sagami Bay in 250m-300m, Suruga Bay Shizuoka.

Remarks
Japanese name of this shell is Hon-Hitachiobi. "Hon" means true, and
"Hitachiobi" means Fulgoraria. We can find the name of "Hitachiobi" in
the old Japanese shell book of Mokuhachifu(1843) and Roppyakukaihin.
The Mokuhachifu says that a Fulgoraria is called "Hitachiobi" in
Kishuwakanoura and called "Takenokogai" in Kamakura.
The Fulgoraria megaspira is also figured in this book and named "Sasazuto".
